Equipped with the latest technology
Melton Optical is equipped with the latest technology and if indicated we will conduct specialised testing using this equipment.
Computerised Visual Field Testing
This test is used in detecting and monitoring glaucoma, as well as for assessing stroke patients. Our Visual Fields Analyser is also approved for VicRoads assessments.
Digital Corneal Topography
This is used in specialist contact lens fitting, particularly in patients with Keratoconus, as well as in assessing suitability for laser refractive surgery. There is also a module for assessing dry eyes.
Digital Retinal Photography
This is done on every patient as a baseline for future comparisons, especially in screening for macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
GDx Laser Polarimetry
This assesses the optic nerve and retinal nerve fibre layer in glaucoma suspects and is also invaluable in monitoring the progress of glaucoma.
Non-Contact Tonometry
Intraocular pressures are routinely measured over 40 years of age. This is a method of measuring pressures without the need for eye drops, and is particularly useful in patients who are averse to having drops.
Auto-Refractometer
This is used to automatically and accurately measure a refractive error and is particularly useful in young children and patients with a lazy eye.
OCT – Optical Coherence Tomography
This is a non-invasive scan which allows the optometrist to map and measure the different layers of the eye, particularly the retina. It is useful in the detection and treatment of glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration.
